Wondering What To Do While On Vacation In Kalispell, Montana?
If you’re planning a vacation to the Flathead Valley, there are so many activities and attractions you can enjoy. Here are some recommendations for things to do while visiting this beautiful part of Montana:
Glacier National Park: Definitely a no brainer and probably why you’re coming here! One of the most popular destinations near Kalispell, Glacier National Park is within a 45 minute drive and you can spend your days exploring stunning landscapes, including lakes, mountains, and glaciers. Activities include, hiking, wildlife spotting, scenic drives along the Going-to-the-Sun Road (check out the infamous Red Bus Tours!), and of course book a photography session to capture that incredible scenery!
Flathead Lake: As the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States, you can relax on the shores, swim, kayak, paddle board, or go fishing. Book a sunset tour on Flathead Lake’s Far West Boat Tours or rent a boat and head over to Wild Horse Island, and yes, it has actual wild horses!
Whitefish Mountain Resort: Just a short drive from Kalispell, Whitefish Mountain Resort offers year-round outdoor activities. In winter, enjoy skiing and snowboarding, or in the summer, you can go hiking, mountain biking, or take a scenic chairlift ride for panoramic views.
Outdoor Adventures: Kalispell is surrounded by beautiful nature and hiking trails. Consider exploring trails such as the Jewel Basin, Lone Pine State Park, or the Whitefish Trail. These areas offer opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the great outdoors. Just be sure to respect wildlife, carry bear spray and of course follow the Leave No Trace principle!
Historical Sites and Museums: Kalispell is full of history and culture. Visit the Conrad Mansion Museum in Kalispell, which showcases the elegant lifestyle of the early 20th century, or the Hockaday Museum of Art, which exhibits regional art and culture.
Montana Coffee Traders: Enjoy a cup of coffee and visit the Montana Coffee Traders, a local favorite. They have multiple locations in the area and offer delicious coffee, baked goods, and a cozy atmosphere.
Shopping and Dining: Kalispell’s downtown area has charming shops, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants (Honey Home is one of my personal favorites). Explore for antiques, handmade crafts, and local goods. Try out local cuisine, including bison burgers and huckleberry treats, at the various restaurants and cafes.
Watersports and Fishing: If you enjoy water activities, you can go kayaking, rafting, or paddle-boarding on the numerous rivers and lakes while fishing enthusiasts can try their luck with fly fishing or lake fishing!
Brewery and Winery Tours: Did you know that Montana has a thriving craft beer and wine scene?Take a tour of local breweries and wineries, the ciders from Big Mountain Ciderworks can’t be beat!
Last, but certainly not least on my list, have professional photos taken in one of these amazing locations! I love working with so many families and couples who are visiting our beautiful state. Whether it’s your first trip or your fiftieth, your memories are worth documenting!
Remember to check the availability of activities and attractions and book as far in advance as possible as things fill up fast in the summer months! Enjoy your vacation in Kalispell, Montana!
